Bored with your neutral closet?

Feeling uninspired? Not sure how to spruce it up? Let me share a few of my favorite ways to wake those sleepy neutrals in your wardrobe. Style it up with accessories top to bottom!

Jewelry – there’s really no excuse to not have a bunch!! You can find stylish jewelry at all price points and there is no better way to complete an outfit than by adding shine! You have 5 options – earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings and brooches! Yes, we all have our demure ring and necklace that we like to wear everyday – can we say boring? Give the old ‘faithful’ a day off and buy something trendy!

Scarves – by now we all have a big stash of puffy, textured scarves that could cover the Statue of Liberty, but where are the accent scarves in your wardrobe? Silk, patterned, oblong scarves can be your morning inspiration; they can pull together those solid pieces in your closet that have never socialized with each other. And that little square scarf that you never knew what to do with – tie it on your bag!

Belts – why do women save belts for 30 years, but never wear them? If they are too big, too small or just plain ugly – get rid of them and start fresh. Belts can be found at all price points, in all colors, textures, and sizes. It is an easy way to finish a look. BTW, if you have sweaters with ‘self-belts’, swap out a new leather belt instead – it just might make your old Mr. Roger’s cardigan your new favorite piece!

Readers – yes, many of us need readers to actually read any font smaller than 20, but seriously do they have to come from Walgreen’s? Go to your local boutique and pick up a few pair, they average less than 20.00. Think tortoise, jewel tones, two-tones; just think of them as an essential accessory that can add some flair to your outfit!

Hosiery – maybe the least expensive update to your wardrobe this season is a pair of opaque tights. The best ones are in black, worn with black shoes, boots or booties. But don’t forget to experiment with color and texture for a polished look head to toe.

Bags – let’s be honest, is it time for a new bag? Take those babies out of hiding, line them up and assess which one you would like to be seen with today. If it is only 2 out of your 20, the math says donate 18! If the two that are left are black – go shopping for color. Hot trends this fall – teal, eggplant and earth tones accented with great hardware!

Shoes – yes, they are an accessory and worthy of the next blog!

Dress with purpose and remember before you walk out that door – do an all points check for color, texture and shine!
