Color Me Beautiful Or Color Me Crayola

Trending for Spring – Color, Color, Color

What do you mean I am not a ‘Spring’? These are the colors that I want to wear! Then for cryin’ out loud Zelda, wear whatever the heck you want!

I hear it all the time. I am over 50; I don’t care what other people think. I am over 50, I want to be comfortable. I am over 50; I want to wear whatever I damn please.

And then there is this: I am over 50; I have no freaking idea what color looks good on me.

That’s the common denominator! Why? Because women of this generation grew up with Color Me Beautiful and they are still toting around the same swatch cards they got when they were 20-something.

Here’s the bad news from the Easter Bunny last week: The dye colors that you used to love, don’t love you anymore!

Why you ask? Because your skin tone has changed, your hair color has changed and your taste has changed. To say nothing of having Pantone colors seasonally shoved down our throats. Oh I believe in fashion trends just like the rest, after all if not for trends that flop, what would fill the markdown racks at TJ Maxx?

But here’s the good news – you are free to choose and to move about the planet whether you are 20, 50 or 90. You are free to toss your old swatch cards and get your colors done again. Buy what you like and wear what you want, but be sure your new palette flatters who you are today, not who you were yesterday. Then celebrate the season and take part in the trend of color, color, and more color. Just check out Iris Apfel if you think that because you hit 50 you can’t experiment, you can’t create new looks or you can’t wear color – bull’ she says!

So pop on some trendy, colorful creative crap at church or temple this week and make them talk! We all know what talk is about – it’s about envy. So go forward and create yourself some holy envy!

Here’s a quote from Iris to get you going.

“When you don’t dress like everyone else, you don’t have to think like everyone else!”
Iris Apfel
