Stylish Jackets For Summer Adventures

bikerideLSummer travels – what adventures await you?
I recently unplugged for two days engaging in a mandatory migration
after an incidental finding.

Mandatory migration,
the process or act of
migrating, to shift, as from one system, mode of operation, to another.

Incidental finding  – previously undiagnosed medical conditions that are discovered unintentionally and are unrelated to the current medical condition for which tests are being performed.

Yikes – put those two definitions together and you come up with WTF, get me the hell out of Dodge. So that’s what I did!

In a matter of 4 hours my daughter and I had travelled north two states ending up in Kennebunkport – for those non New Englanders, that is coastal Maine, home of lobsters and Bush’s (George & Barbara).

Which brings me back to summer travels – what adventure awaits you and do you have the necessary ‘shell’ (for me, aka bravery) to be well prepared?

Let’s talk shells – safari jackets, parkas, field jackets, windbreakers and so on. Always a necessary packable, seldom one well thought out in advance. Here’s the 24-hour journey and my recommended shopping list for your upcoming summer adventures. I show specifics but in reality, it is okay just to grasp the categories and put them on your radar screen for those daily discounts that pop up in your email!

Our first stop, hiking through the Wells Preserve and a stroll on the beach.
Weather report = partly cloudy, chance of sprinkles. Lightweight parka recommended, hood preferred.

Our second stop, harbor strolling, lunching and sightseeing through beautiful Kennebunkport.
Weather report = sun breaking through, 62 degrees and windy.

Recommended attire, a breathable utility jacket, casual enough to be wrapped around my waist in case of a lunch-latte-hot-flash.

Third stop, we checked into a fabulous Inn on the ocean, ditched the bags and hopped on cruiser bikes with fat tires and ghost brakes.

Weather report – freaking windy with whipping sand and looming black clouds! You got it – a windbreaker with a longer back so it can add a bit of cushioning to those hard bicycle seats.

Late afternoon agenda – watermelon martini’s on the veranda.

Weather report = setting sun, warm breeze and a lighting show on the other side of the Bay. Time to snuggle into a field jacket, a big comfy yellow deck chair and sip martinis – plural that is.

Afternoon whale watch, why not.
It was time to stop looking at the water and get ON the water.
Weather report = ocean weather, whatever that might bring! Memories of being under the Niagara Falls came to mind, so the recommended attire is yellow and water resistant!
