MAKEOVER MONDAY

Boots from Nordstroms
The best of black – boots that is!
Sometimes the makeovers are not complicated. I worked with a Providence client this weekend who is just building her wardrobe. Yes, many of the items that we scoured Nordstrom for were black. Of course we all need that fabulous fitting pair of black pants, the indispensable little black skirt and a black blazer of some sort – solid, tweed, leather embellished, fitted, flowy, whatever! But the category that is the frosting on the makeover is the boots! Face it, you need two pair of stunning black boots…but…they need to be comfortable, warm, durable and fabulous. AND – they need to last for years because they are a bit of an investment.
Why would I make an investment in my wardrobe you ask? Today’s lesson – cost per wear. This is a very simple concept. You can justify making an investment in an item by dividing the actual cost of the item by how many times you’ll probably wear it. Chances are it’ll probably pay for itself. Take the Aquatalia bootie for example. I bought mine 2 years ago and my hand shook as I signed that American Distress card receipt for over 300.00. I have literally worn those boots 3 times a week all winter, times 2 winters. Here’s the math…
New England winter = easily 5 months x 4 weeks x 3 wearings per week = 60 times per year x 2 years = 120 wearings. Have I lost you yet? Stay with me here. $300.00 divided by 120 wearings = $2.50 per wear! How do you spell ka-ching???
