A Girl, a Legend and a Pair of Earrings…

I reconnected with Yolanda Doreen & Yolandalast week,  dare I say, after over 30 years! She was just as stunning, friendly and humble as the first day that I met her.

Here’s the back-story:

I pretty much grew up at Ann Taylor’s; started working there as a high school student and stayed through Boston College. At that time Ann Taylor’s was a family owned group of 5 stores in which the founders were commonly present. Richard Liebeskind was growing a business based on integrity and hard work. Joan Helpern was building a shoe empire, Joan & David shoes, based on the same principals and leasing the department within Ann Taylor. These principles of hard work and customer dedication became the foundation for my lifelong career in the fashion industry.

Fast-forward through my life and here comes my wedding day. Where else would I head in New England, but to Yolanda’s. Since 1967, Yolanda has been an icon in the Boston fashion industry. So there we were, my mother and I, just newbie customers within the white walls of Waltham, when Yolanda appeared in all her glory wearing a stunning pair of earrings Wedding photo(good enough as a Monday morning accessory for her, and fabulous enough as a wedding accessory for me). I tapped my big girl bravery and said, “Oh Yolanda those would be perfect with my dress.” Without hesitation, she took them off, and they were mine to have.

And so, the thread of the story continued, ‘The customer is the asset, always treat them that way.’

Yolanda built an empire through hard work, dedication to her customers and attention to detail. As a result of her act of kindness I have sent  countless clients, friends and family members to Yolanda’s and no doubt, they all have a story to tell.IMG_0727a

I never forgot that day, that deed, that special moment where a girl, a legend and a pair of earrings all intersected!

Thank you Yolanda!
